WATER ALERTS IN MEXICO – UPDATE September 23, 2024
As of September 23, 2024, approximately 25% (610445 square kilometers) of Mexico is under drought conditions and 15% (367425 square kilometers) is Abnormally dry. This is down from our previous report in August.
There are 11 Drought Alerts in Mexico, down from 18. Several drought alerts were recategorized as the drought abates in some regions.
In 5 locations - Celaya, Ciudad Acuña, Durango, Ojinaga, and Lagos de Moreno - the drought has moved up from severe to extreme. Seven locations - Celaya, Culiacán , Zitácuaro, Guasave, Silao, Zacapu, and Guamúchil - are no longer on our Map, as they were downgraded from Extreme to Severe or Abnormally Dry.
Delicias and San Juan del Río were downgraded from Exceptional Drought to Extreme Drought.
