WATER ALERTS IN MEXICO – UPDATE AUGUST 26, 2024
As of August 26 2024, approximately 33% (786127 square kilometers) of Mexico is under drought conditions and 11% (255277 square kilometers) is Abnormally dry. This is down from our previous report in August.
As of August 26, 2024, there are 18 Drought Alerts in Mexico, down from 36. Several drought alerts were recategorized as the drought abates in some regions.
In 5 locations - Celaya, Ciudad Acuña, Durango, Ojinaga, and Lagos de Moreno - the drought has moved up from severe to extreme.
Five locations - Apatzingán, Celaya, Ciudad Acuna, Durango, and Lagos de Moreno - are no longer on our Map, as they were downgraded from Extreme to Severe or Abnormally Dry.
Hermosillo and Nuevo Casas Grandes were downgraded from Exceptional Drought to Extreme Drought.
