WATER ALERTS IN MEXICO – UPDATE AUGUST 4, 2024
As of August 1, 2024 approximately 48% (1170174 square kilometers) of Mexico is under drought conditions and 19% (450984 square kilometers) is Abnormally dry.
As of August 1, 2024, there are 36 Drought Alerts in Mexico. Several drought alerts were recategorized as the drought intensifies in some regions across Mexico and abates in others.
In 5 locations -Celaya, Ciudad Acuña, Durango, Ojinaga, and Lagos de Moreno - the drought has moved up from severe to extreme,
In 15 locations - Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Irapuato, Xicotepec de Juárez, Pachuca, Ciudad Victoria, Ciudad Mante, Tampico, Poza Rica, Guyamas, Ciudad Madero, Ciudad Valles, Xalapa, Pinal de Amoles, Arroyo Seco - the drought was downgraded from exceptional to extreme.
